Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important official said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
