Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.
Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle in the past months.
The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serve.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.
The opponent defended 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
